Lighting up the town

Christmas has come to our village. We arrived home today at dusk to find a single string of lights strung across the road from the village street light between us and strange other side next door neighbour. Yes not for us the garish displays of other nearby villages with their multiple strings of twinkly lights and their christmas trees on every lamp post.

To make up for this I notice Debra has lights around her door and strange other side next door neighbour has had his madly flashing randomly strung lights up there since mid November. So tomorrow we will do our bit and put some lights up on the lime tree. Ours are allegedly programmable to flash and change colours in many interesting and varied ways but I seem to recall that they usually finish up fading in and out in a ghostly blue. Between us all we should get the traffic moving along pretty briskly I reckon.

The most popular exterior decoration appears to be Pere Noel Grimpeur (Father Christmas Climbing) these are in all the shops and range from about two feet high to larger than life size. We have seen them hanging from lots and lots of houses. Unfortunately hanging seems to be the operative word they all have the look of being strung up as a warning to other Santas.

We really will have to do something about christmas I suppose though as usual we are not in the slightest bit prepared. In my case I think it's due to having a birthday at the beginning of December not that I'm ever ready for my birthday either. Actually I'm never ready for any "days" or anniversaries or anything. Yes scratch the birthday theory/excuse I'm just not ready.

What? You had a birthday? Well, happy birthday, then! I hope you had a wonderful day!!

Is the Pere Noel Grimpeur anything like the smashed witch halloween decoration? (see http://members.aol.com/pumpkinave/decorations/decorateout.htm, go down to no. 7)

So glad to see another post - I'm still mourning Mimo - poor thing.

However - you have reminded me that I better get my butt in gear and get some Xmas decorations up too! I had planned on doing it this week - but other events have completely wiped out all plans I made for this week.

Are congrats what we need for another birthday at our age - or condolences? Take whatever you wish....:)

Imperatrix - almost although they usually seem to make it as high as just below the guttering where they hang limply. Maybe it is something to do with the windy weather and they should look like they are climbing purposefully up the side of the house

Aims - Yes get to it and get those decs out. I know what you mean about events overtaking you though I had a job to do last Monday which I eventually managed to make a start on by Thursday

Breezy as you know when it comes to lights at my house, less is more. It's reassuring to know that I am not the only one suffering from less than the required amount of Christmas organisation, I have a pile of pressies and cards that need to be posted if anyone in my family is going to have a "happy" Christmas. Fingers crossed - today is the day I will make it to the Post Office.

The idea of Santa being strung up made me giggle... I love the idea of twinkly village lights. I live in the English equivalent and it's heartbreakingly beautiful.

Am going to order Christmas online, including food, pressies and a good mood.

Hi Breezy, we have always laughed at the hanging santas. They always look like they have committed suicide to me! The christmas lights in Limoges are supposed to be lovely this year, and I went the St Junien while it was still dark on Tuesday and their light are really pretty. A small herd of white sparkly reindeer as well! They have an xmas market on Saturday, that I think starts after the normal market.

SITH Well I'm still not decorated surprise surprise I found something else to do!

Jen that conjours up the image of a huge box being delivered that explodes Christmas all over the house

Debra not more Christmas markets you know TOH will be worrying. We may have to check out those sparkly reindeers though

Breezy - "strung up as a warning to ther Santas"

Excellent.

Our village has gone MAD! 5 or 6 strings of light bulbs across the road! And the usual straggly branches of sapin wired to everyones gates.

Stew 5 or 6 strings! I am green with envy we haven't even got the straggly sapins
